Cameron Russell tells us her story of when she was barely 16 and entered the modeling world. She admits that she won a "genetic lottery". Shes models for Chanel and Victoria Secret - shes tall and gorgeous.....Who wouldn't want to be her?
In this Ted Talk, "Looks aren't everything. Believe me, I'm a model", she enters in this beautiful black dress, but it wasn't appropriate for speaking in front of a live audience. She begins by changing her outfit in front of us, from her revealing black dress she puts a sweater on, a long dress and flat shoes instead of her high pumps. This, to me was the perfect way to introduce her story of when she started working in the modeling industry at barely 16 years old. She hooks us in by showing us some very nude and racy pictures with her and a male model at such a young age. Cameron shocks the audience by revealing that she's never even had a boyfriend considering the pictures she posed for.
Later, she answers frequently asked questions but with an honest twist....not what people want her to say, but what it really is like to be a model and she gives us a peek into her world.
My favorite part of her talk was the sequence of photos aligned with half naked and revealing and most definitely not age appropriate photoshoots, compared to same pictures she took that day, she was young and vibrant. Her regular pictures make her like well..... 15 year old. The pictures she modeled for made her look like well a older version of sexy and a lot more nude with contoured makeup. She looked like a completely different person.
She concludes her talk by dropping the bomb, that she is actually really insecure about her body and entering the modeling world; she did not know what she was getting herself into. And she mentions she has to worry about what she looks like every day. You would think this is the opposite conscience of a successful, beautiful model; but no. The industry constructs this new sexy and inappropriate image of her.
Cameron Russell is really inspiring and gives the audience a proper and honest perspective of what it's like to be an underwear model.
