In Sir Ken Robinson's Ted Talk "How schools kill creativity", he begins by admitting what our interests rare regarding education and what the future will bring for our upcoming generation. Robinson says "Creativity is as important now in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status". His claim is straight forward and reveals that society we discard every child's talents and abilities, when really that shouldn't be the case. His humor really brings the audience to life and reels you in.
He continues to tell a story about a little girl in art class who used her imagination to draw god. The teacher looked at her and then said "But nobody knows what god looks like....". The little girl humorously replied "They will in a minute". Basically, the teacher squashed her colorful and creative fantasy. This is a perfect example of school indeed kills creativity, the teacher straight forward told the little girl not to draw god because "nobody knows what god looks like".
Watching this video was very entertaining and it convinced me what school and their whole system does to children's imagination, creativity and how it's always focused on academics, and not also how comprehensive and creative they can be if they weren't so limited.
